buratinas, ittre 2022
Live composition for écluse. Sounds bouncing off concrete bouncing off water bouncing off concrete bouncing back.
Around the summer solstice I spent 10 days in Ittre, making a composition for and with the incredible acoustics of the almost 14m high lock. This remarkable piece of Bruxelles-Charleroi canal architecture served as the decor for a sonic intervention. Two pairs of cone-shaped speakers were mounted on the deck of Buratinas to make a sound piece sur mesure, playing with the reflections of the architecture and the water, all sounds eventually being swallowed by the overwhelming overtone drones of the engines of the lock pumps.

In this track you can hear a mix of the sounds of the performance eventually being swallowed by the overwhelming overtone drones of the engines of the lock pumps.

Many thanks to Nadine VZW, the Buratinas Captains, Christophe Rault and everyone from and around the lock of Ittre.
